Simple kind of life

Sometimes all you can do is don a simple dress,
put on some bright red lipstick,
and hope for the best.

I've almost forgotten this dress, (not so neatly) tucked away at the bottom of my closet.
I liken it to finding a hidden treasure when this sort of thing happens.

Only started the week and I already can't wait for the weekend. Work is slowly killing my soul.
Hope you guys are doing better out there.
Dress : MNG
Shoes : Flea market

Beneath the mask

Beneath the mask, I can hide,
Lurking, In the shadows of your mind
...
Played dress up with the new corset I bought from la senza today.

Painted my nails minty green, I'm beginning to like it a whole lot.

Hid behind the mask I bought a week ago.

Missing him.

Sang 'you make it real' loudly in my room.

Worn my black cherry revlon lipstick and my 'o' ring.

How is Friday like for the rest of you?

Under the leather

What is is about leather jackets that makes you feel tough and invincible after you put them on? I must say it is quite an exhilarating feeling that I've experienced with my very first leather jacket. I've been wanting a leather jacket for myself after buying one for the bf for Christmas and as soon as I put this on at the shop, I was a goner. It practically begged to be brought home with me!

And one more thing I have to say about leather jackets, they seem to go well with just about anything. Here I paired it up with a long bohemian dress, after seeing so many renditions of this outfit in the magazines I recently bought. I thought it would be fun to impersonate some of the styles that I liked in the editorials. So perhaps this will be the first of many to come.

I'm not sure how or why blogging has become a very big part of my life but it truly has. Lately, I've been bogged down with endless work related crises and I'm really glad I have my blog to escape to. It has become a haven of sorts that I can feel safe in, somewhere I can forget my problems albeit temporarily. Somewhere I can be myself again, stripped off all responsibilities and worries. And for that, I feel quite thankful for this avenue.

What about you? Has blogging become a part of your life too?

Lace and curls

Once upon a time, in a far far away land lives a girl who dreams of having beautiful curly tresses on her head. As she grew up, she looked at other curly haired girls with envy, wishing she had a mass of curls instead of only slightly wavy and partly straight limp strands. She wishes with all her heart that her hair would made up her mind and chose one or the other because then she wouldn't feel so bad! But one night as the girl slumbered in a calm sleep, a fairy who happened to tiptoe into her room at midnight listened to the girl's secret dreams and decided to grant the girl the very wish of her heart! The girl awoke the next day with a smile in her heart. She brought her hand to her cheek and felt a tinge of fairy dust left there. Rushing to the mirror, her eyes widened in amazement at the curly locks her head had magically sprouted in the night. She was so happy she danced, she skipped, she jumped! All along with the curls bouncing to the rhythm of her every move.

Yes, I've gone back to being curly again, my friends!

Restless

My feelings are all mixed up today, I feel so restless without any apparent reason. I wish I knew the answers to every question I have and I wish so hard that I had myself figured out.
I'm probably just having one of those days.

Apologies for the grainy pictures, I blame the poor lighting in my room.As mixed up as my feelings were, so were my choice of aesthetics. I put a polka dot print blouse and plaid tweed shorts together, adding a short suede vest and knee high socks to sweeten the concoction. Strangely I felt it kind of works, but then it may be because I'm just a bit delusional today. I'm sure all I need is a good night's sleep and tomorow will be a better day.

What do you do to cheer up on days like these?

Mermaid

Who would be A mermaid fair, Singing alone, Combing her hair Under the sea, In a golden curl With a comb of pearl, On a throne?

II I would be a mermaid fair; I would sing to myself the whole of the day; With a comb of pearl I would comb my hair; And still as I comb'd I would sing and say, 'Who is it loves me? who loves not me?' I would comb my hair till my ringlets would fall Low adown, low adown, From under my starry sea-bud crown Low adown and around, And I should look like a fountain of gold Springing alone With a shrill inner sound Over the throne In the midst of the hall; Till that great sea-snake under the sea From his coiled sleeps in the central deeps Would slowly trail himself sevenfold Round the hall where I sate, and look in at the gate With his large calm eyes for the love of me. And all the mermen under the sea Would feel their immortality Die in their hearts for the love of me.

III But at night I would wander away, away, I would fling on each side my low-flowing locks, And lightly vault from the throne and play With the mermen in and out of the rocks; We would run to and fro, and hide and seek, On the broad sea-wolds in the crimson shells, Whose silvery spikes are nighest the sea. But if any came near I would call and shriek, And adown the steep like a wave I would leap From the diamond-ledges that jut from the dells; For I would not be kiss'd by all who would list Of the bold merry mermen under the sea. They would sue me, and woo me, and flatter me, In the purple twilights under the sea; But the king of them all would carry me, Woo me, and win me, and marry me, In the branching jaspers under the sea. Then all the dry-pied things that be In the hueless mosses under the sea Would curl round my silver feet silently, All looking up for the love of me. And if I should carol aloud, from aloft All things that are forked, and horned, and soft Would lean out from the hollow sphere of the sea, All looking down for the love of me.

-Lord Alfred Tennyson-

When I was a little girl, I will wish that I was a mermaid.
For then I will never have to leave the ocean and all of its glorious beauty.

But then I suspect, I will get bored of having a tail instead of legs sooner or later.
After all the grass is always greener on the other side
, don't you think so?
I still love the ocean, one way or another, it's the most beautiful place in the world!

p.s. I should be on the plane back to home sweet home right now!
Miss you darlings:)

The Q & A post

Me on my brother's birthday last Sept.

How many pairs of shoes do you own ?

I counted about 35 pairs in total. But some of them are pretty old and unworn, and I do share some of them with my sister.

How did you become so stylish?

I'm not sure I could call myself stylish really. I guess I just love dressing up since I was a lil girl and I love beautiful things, combining them together just makes me happy. And having a stylish mother who dressed me up in lovely things really helped too:)

Where do you want life to take you?

I hope it leads me to a beautiful, comfortable home and family in the near future because I think that's the most important thing in life! I would also love to travel to more places in the world and experience different cultures from mine. Oh, and I would love to see an aurora one day!

Whats your goal at the moment? and your ultimate life goal?

I've just bought a new dslr and I'll really like to learn how to take better pictures. These past few weeks, I've been looking over at such inspiring photos at flikr that makes me wish I'm a better photographer!

It's probably cheesy and simple, but my ultimate life goal is to be a good wife and mother and to be happy with whatever I'm doing. Wherever I end up, I hope there'll always be songs to sing, poetry to write, books to read, beautiful pictures to be taken and time for daydreaming and laughter in my life.

And where is your dream place to live in if you had a choice ? If you could live anywhere where would it be and why?

Quite a tough question, there are so many beautiful places in the world! I've always had a silly notion of settling down somewhere like New Zealand for a quiet, countryside life. But I've never been there, so I can't really tell how it'll be like! Another place I would love to live in is Paris of course, very cliche I know. But the macaroons, the parks, the history, culture, arts, the tour eiffel, the fashion, architecture, well everything there is like living a dream!

What is your dream career?

This is such a good question because it's something I constantly think of. I'm actually in the banking industry and truthfully am very ill-fitted here, I'm afraid. My dream is to have a little shop selling whimsical clothes, books, shoes, jewelry, and trinkets that are special and unique. Hopefully, I'll have the freedom and flexibility to do so one day:)

What is your favourite book?

Oh, Pride and Prejudice definitely, I love to read it again every year, it's like a ritual. Growing up, I also really loved the Anne of Green Gables series.

What is your favourite song?

Oh too many, one of them is This Love by Cocteau Twins. Another current favourite of mine is Coin Laundry by Lisa Mitchell which is now stuck in my head!

What is your favourite place in the world?

I love being at the beach or an island. I love the carefree feeling and the closeness to nature there, everything just feels more alive! I really should be a beach bum:)

Me at Langkawi island
Who inspires you the most ?
I can't think of any one person! Rather, I would say books! Books that nurture my imagination, bring me to places I can only dream of, that are filled with beautiful words strung together to create a story, they inspire me the most:)

Where do you usually buy your outfits ?
I buy them at the usual places like Zara, Mango, F21, Topshop and Nichii (a local chain store). Nowadays, I also buy a lot from local online stores and blogshops, they have great variety at very reasonable prices.

Style-wise, who would you be for the day and why?
I'll rather like to be Taylor Tomasi for the day because she has the loveliest shade of red hair and a casual flair to her style yet she looks nothing short of amazing!

With that said, I wouldn't mind being Zooey Deschanel for the day as well, she is so very adorable and quirky in her own special way.

Yours is one of my favorite blogs because you seem to have a very distinctive romantic personality and the blog is all about that. Are you also like that in other spheres of your life? If yes, how does it work for you?
Thank you for the thoughtful question! To be really honest, I'm every bit of a romantic in all aspects of my life. It has definitely made me more of a sentimental, quiet, sensitive, daydreamer and imaginative type of person. My difficulties are sometimes in relating to the people around me, p
robably because I have my head above the clouds most of the time, that I find it hard to connect with most people sometimes. They probably think I'm not being a realist. That is why I'm glad I have this blog, it is a form of escape for me from the real world, somewhere I can be wholly myself. A platform for me to express myself in ways I'm probably limited to in other areas of my life. And meeting other bloggers who dream, feel and speak the way I do is truly such heaven!

Thank you so much for all the questions, I had so much fun answering them!
And thank you to all of you who reads my lil blog,
I'm grateful for each and every comment you leave

Oh yea, a little update!
I've booked my flight tickets for next June, we're going to Greece!
And there will be enough time to explore around UK too,
our hearts are set in Cornwall and Bath!
Let me know if you guys have any suggestions:)
(The best part is I didn't even have to choose between Greece and Switzerland,
because bf said we could probably swing by Switzerland the next trip in 2011!)

Hope everyone has a Happy Friday

Rose hued eyes

You love the roses - so do I. I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?

Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on.
They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!
- George Eliot

If you had not picked it up by now, I have a thing for roses.
And that explains all kinds of assorted rose jewelry lying on my dressing table.
I also love receiving bouquet of roses (and actually all kind of flowers).
Last year was the first year I had to celebrate my birthday without my bf
and I was feeling quite sorry for myself
.
In fact, I was nasty and in the foulest mood ever
while chatting with him on skype the night before.

So imagine my amazement and bewilderment when the florist
delivered the prettiest bouquet of white roses in the morning.

I was totally surprised and so touched that it brought tears to my eyes.
To think he had actually ordered the flowers online from Edinburgh some time ago.

I was so happy that day, it's silly really how a bouquet of roses can bring you such joy!

Do you have a sweet story to share of receiving pretty bouquets of flowers?

P.s. To anyone who would love to exchange links, do drop a comment as I'll be updating my blog roll soon:)

Umbrella Sky

Just the other day, I found my little umbrella necklace hidden away in my jewelry box.
I've totally forgotten I even had this necklace!
I haven't worn it for the longest time because its clasp at the end was broken.
For now, I merely tied a knot behind it to solve the problem momentarily.
The bow earrings are another favourite of mine. I bought it for myself last Christmas,
and they always remind me of pressies and Christmas of course!

And here I am in one of my favourite prints, the tartan

Umbrellas are kind of romantic, aren't they?
Especially when they come in bright colours and unique designs.
There's certainly something picturesque about
holding an umbrella as you walk in the drizzling rain across a quiet street.
I also think the kind of umbrella you own may shed some light on the person you are.

I already fulfilled my dream of having a clear umbrella earlier this year,
and now, I'm still dreaming of a bright red one which is in my mind ever since I watched
this beautiful Hongkong movie 'Turn Left, Turn Right' in 2004. The main female protagonist's umbrella was in the loveliest shade of red in the movie. (I'm thinking of doing a post on the movie next)

I'm sure a bright red umbrella will come in handy as a lovely prop in any future photo-takings
and of course, for those quiet walks in the rain

What kind of umbrella do you have or wish to have?
